Dr. Lucille Blumberg is the Deputy-Director, Head of Division of Public Health, Surveillance and Response, and Head of Travel Health of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) in South Africa.
This presentation summarises the findings of Dr. Blumberg's career in the region and specifically in the Transfrontier Conservation Areas systems. Here she highlights the role of disease in planning for TFCAs and their governance systems. As a longstanding member of the Animal and Human Health for Environment and Development in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area (AHEAD-GLTFCA) network, her use of the One Health approach has been fundamental to the changes in perspectives over disease in ecosystem management for conservation and development.
Dr. Blumberg is a member of the AHEAD-GLTFCA Advisory Committee.
