We review the unique features of MPAs and the relevant key international ocean law and policy instruments. We also elaborate on specific issues that must be addressed in MPA legal provisions. Finally, We highlight legal tools and strategies for marine connectivity conservation, including ocean zoning, marine spatial planning, and transboundary marine protected areas.
