Presentation On Spatial Planning To Mainstream Biodiversity

Resource Type:

This presentation explains that protected areas are often viewed as islands of biodiversity -isolated within a fragmented landscape, and managed in complete isolation from other economic and natural resource sectors. It emphasizes that protected areas alone are not sufficient to safeguard natural and human communities in the future; there is a need to have a broader strategy that integrates protected areas into the wider landscape and seascape, as well as into sectoral plans and strategies.

It was presented during Week 2 of the CBD-UNDP-IFDD-PRCM e-course on 'Protected Area Systems: Management and Design'.
