The NBSAP Forum contains an extensive library of best practices related to developing and implementing NBSAPs. Our purpose is to enable countries to share and learn about effective, field-tested techniques and solutions. We work closely with our members to document the problem addressed, for whom, the primary actions, how they achieved results, and the solution they achieved.     Jagriti is a community-based organization operating in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh, India. It works towards women’s empowerment through livelihood development and the promotion of energy-efficient and drudgery-reducing devices. Since 2002, Jagriti has been disseminating a package of energy-efficient devices (including liquefied petroleum gas stoves, pressure cookers and traditional water heaters) in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu District. This energy programme is implemented through over 100 women’s savings and credit groups at the village and hamlet level.

    TRY Oyster Women’s Association empowers a highly marginalized and economically vulnerable segment of Gambian society. The Association is an established group of 500 female oyster harvesters, with organized leadership, from 15 villages in the Greater Banjul area of The Gambia. It is creating positive change and economic transformation in local villages. Rather than struggling individually, as they once did, women harvesters are now part of a flourishing and widely recognized local enterprise.

    Orissa, an east coast state in India, has a 482-kilometer coastline that extends through six districts. The state’s abundant marine resources provide for the livelihoods and wellbeing of local villagers. The coastline is an annual nesting site (arribada) for the endangered Olive Ridley Turtle. Three sites attract mating turtles: Devi Rookery, Rushikulya Rookery and Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary.

    Protected Areas Tourism For Nepal's Development

    Protected Areas (Pas) of Nepal provide habitat for a range of species including tiger, rhino, snow leopard, red panda, musk deer, and many others. A gradual shift in the management strategy from strict protection and species focus into ecosystem and landscape approach has mainstreamed economic development. As of 2014, there are 10 national parks, three wildlife reserves, one hunting reserve, six conservation areas, and 12 twelve buffer zones which are a part of the PA system in Nepal.

    Conservation Of Benin’s Sacred Forests: Legal Protection For Ecologically And Religiously Significant Areas

    The ongoing project “Incorporation of Sacred Forests into the Protected Areas System of Benin,” supported by UNDP and financed by GEF, preserves tracts of forest with religious and ecological significance in Benin. These sacred forests are at high risk, and the recent addition of Sacred Forest as a category of Benin’s protected areas legislation paves the way for greater protection of the forests included in the project scope as well as other forests around the country.
